Chillin’

Yeah, that’s the score for tonight. Just… chillin.

Oh, if you didn’t notice (and those of you reading this through LJ won’t), I changed the title of the homepage blog thingy here to Bum Scoop, which is also the title of the LiveJournal, continuing that little convergence. I feel very silly even blogging about it, but I figure if I didn’t, two or three people might wonder, I wouldn’t know who they were so I couldn’t e-mail them, and it would all be a big mess. Most folks that link to me do so by my name, rather than the blog’s name, so no big deal there–and the links themselves won’t change.

So why the “rebranding?” Mostly because I just like “Bum Scoop” better, and it better describes what I offer here. (Hint: It’s all in the initials.)

Just kidding, hardly any bullshit here. Hardly any at all.

Second, this past weekend I had one of those odd moments of false nostalgia. It came watching this back-to-back Magnum P.I. and Simon & Simon thingy on the Sleuth channel. It was one of those crossover deals where Simon & Simon show up in Hawaii and run afoul of Magnum, then Higgins goes back to LA with the boys and extracts revenge on Morgan Fairchild playing a con artist. Though there was a bit of a disjoint because the episode of Magnum that was aired had evidently been shot with a different ending for syndication, and so the whole plot wrapped up at the end of the hour with Fairchild’s comeuppance, but then continued with flashbacks to stuff that never happened in Simon & Simon.

Anyway, what was odd that I had never watched Simon & Simon as a kid, and never sought it out in syndication (unlike Magnum). But I felt like I was watching something I had always known. Got lost a bit on the particulars, but it was familiar and homey, just like Magnum.

Which made me realize that I miss that brand of 1980s mystery/action/adventure. Okay, so I don’t really miss The A-Team, because that was altogether too cheesy. (A bunch of Green Berets who shoot to miss all the time? Or worse, can’t hit the broadside of a barn? Who favor Mini-14s with chromed barrels?) But stuff like Magnum and Simon & Simon… they’ve been replaced by the uber-gritty procedurals and copudramas and court room shows (looking at you, Law & Order and CSI!) Sure, there’s moments of levity, but… it’s not quite the same as the 80s stuff. Which I guess says a lot about the different times, and overall I’m not sure I’d trade the 1980s for now.

Me In Mah HoodieBut I miss those shows.

Oh, and here’s a picture of me as I am now. Chin’s looking a little weak there, Dave. Time to start working out a bit more. As you might be able to tell, I’m in desperate need of both a shave and a hair cut. Tomorrow I should be getting the hair taken care of, and probably the beard too, after I shower in the morning. But that’s what a hard weekend will do to you, let me tell you.

That’s Nikolai Khabibulin hanging on the wall over the light switch there on the left, by the way. I dunno why he’s there, it just seemed like a good place to hang him. I’m going to take some pictures of the new office configuration and post them tomorrow. It’s not the NEW office, that I’m still working on, but the old office reconfigured to jettison Tarri’s desk and open up some room for the kids down here. Plus take my desk out of direct line of the outside doors, because when they open it gets a wee bit cold where I used to be. Not into that at ALL.

Okay, done rambling for now. Have a nice night y’all.
