Nothing Much To Report
Sep. 5th, 2004 01:50 amDeparture plans continue unabated.
I'm no longer working the secret duty, due to a number of minor injuries keeping people from standing for prolonged periods. Lcpl. Tracer Round finally is getting the treatment he needs for his massive, grapefruit-sized abdominal hernia, over his protests. He is, I think, a moron, but no sufficiently cogent argument on the part of those who don't want to see his guts explode is enough to make him feel better about traveling to Germany and/or California on his own. So I'm back in the towers. Yesterday, I worked twelve hours out of twenty, which was not fun. Today I get back to a more sane schedule, although, of course, I would much rather be sitting on my butt in the barracks.
Today we had the Very Model of a Modern Major General visit our tower, just to see what it's like to stare out at the locals. That spiced things up for all of ten minutes. Very exciting.
Otherwise, we're marking time and working on not getting complacent. We've heard rumors of being on "stand down" at our next stop, and that's something to work for. Ten-to-fourteen days of doing nothing but nothing sounds like fun.
Five weeks and I should be back in Indiana. W00t.
Be sure to pray/send healing thoughts for the people of Beslan, North Ossetia, Russia. I don't think I could be less upset about all that, and I've been praying for those folks non-stop since I heard about it.
See you tomorrow, same Dave-time, same Dave-channel.
