A Coupla Things
Sep. 2nd, 2004 03:00 pmUnrelated to Iraq, amazingly enough.
Starting on a sad note, I think the developing situation in Russia with the school held hostage sucks. Whatever sympathy I might have had for the Chechen cause has gone straight out the window. God, I hate terrorism.
Happier news:
The New Apple iMac is totally way cool. I want one in that way that my wife wants the black Camaro from Better Off Dead, which is to say, if I won the lottery, then cool, but otherwise I wouldn't really have anything to do with it, perhaps other than gaze upon it. And then my wife would get jealous, so it's better all around that I can't afford it.
I bought Stargate SG-1 Season 5 yesterday, and watched the first twelve episodes right off the bat. Yum. My only complaint is that the Christopher Judge video diary on Disc 3 did not work correctly. Also, listening to Peter DeLuise deliver episode commentary is... akin... to... having the director do his own MST3K, with occasional interesting bits of filmmaking tossed in for fun. Listening to Martin Wood deliver commentary is soooooooo much better. Also: if only the Air Force females around here looked like Amanda Tapping.
The other day, when I mentioned jokingly that Val Kilmer has done nothing good since Top Secret!, I went back to the barracks, went to bed... and woke up to the sound of Top Secret! on the television. Brand new DVD release, complete with cut scenes and director commentary. The commentary was cool, but I think it demonstrates that commentary tracks should be done closer to the production date of the movie. Especially if the directors' careers have kinda turned downhill, as is the case with Zucker-Abrahms-Zucker. Also, if you need a moderator to direct the flow of the commentary, it gets a little boring. But then, the first DVD commentaries I ever watched were for Mallrats and Jay and Silent Bob Strike Back which were, in fact, funnier than the movies themselves, so... I may tend to expect too much.
I think that's it for today. Oh, the shoulder thing may end up being a slight tear in a bicep tendon up in the shoulder joint, or it may just be severely strained. The doc said time will tell. I have a feeling the numbness-in-hand has more to do with incipient carpal tunnel (tunal? tunnal? I thought it wasn't spelt the same as Lincoln Tunnel) syndrome, especially after a friend's comment in her SFF.net newsgroup about similar typing habits and symptoms.
That's really it for today.
