A Little Paul Harvey Today
Aug. 7th, 2004 11:25 pmPage One,
ThermaCare heat wraps are the bomb-diggity, yo. I wrapped one on my aching lower back the other day, wore it for the recommended eight hours (four of which included standing post in my 30+ lbs of gear), and my back has felt wonderful since. My wife has disdained them since an ineffective experience, but me, I'm converted. Thanks to my brother J for sending them.
Also, no matter what the aforementioned brother might think of them, Mach 3 Turbo razors are also the bomb. Smoothest, most nick-free shave ever. I'm hoping I can make my current supply last until California.
AAFES finally showed up, the other day. After months of having an expeditionary PX, staffed by Army volunteers, we finally have our own crowd of AAFES employees, the signage ("We Go Where You Go" ... to which I want to add: "Eventually"), and the rumors of a Subway and Hardees and Pizza something inbound. The PX is supposed to be closed Sunday so that they can rework the shelving scheme. We'll see what a difference their presence makes.
Page 2,
I moved back to the secret duty yesterday, unfortunately at
fattred1's expense. Hopefully he'll still be my friend. Further unfortunately, moving there also comes at the expense of talking to my wife at our usual time and in the usual manner (thanks to Skype, thanks again to Brother J), so it'll be 4.9 cents per minute phone calls for most of the rest of the next two months. I'm going to try to change the schedule up, but the other guys working the duty like working it when they do, too, for the same reason as I don't like working then. Gotta get a flexible, single dude (like, say,
fattred1...) to start working the duty and take my time slot. Of course, now I'm going to be able to start reading my brains out again...
And so last night I finished The Honourable Schoolboy, sent me by the lovely
kaygo, and... *smack of lips* it left a weird taste in my mouth. It's one of those books where you simply get so furious with a character, that it's almost impossible to enjoy the ending.
But any way. Obladee, obladah, lalalala life goes on.
Oh, and Gordon Lightfoot is the Man.
