davidklecha: Listening to someone else read the worst of my teenage writing. (Default)
Updated My Summer Reading List today, and I think it's totally current. Left out is the book Earth Winter by someone forgettable that I put down for good after about ten pages for no specific reason, just a general distaste for the book.

I've now overshot the writing I had done prior to the deployment with my current project, and I've moved into somewhat uncharted territory. From here on out, it's all new composition and finding my way in the dark. I'd say I have about 40-50k to write, and I won't be sad if I go over that. Some things I had planned felt like padding, but I think with the revisions I've been working on over the past couple of weeks, I've got things headed in something akin to a new direction, feeling like the story is just ramping up "for real." Seems like a good feeling. Can't wait to be done, and I'm shooting for mid-to-late July. If I can manage 2k words a day, which is ambitious, I could have it done before June is out. Going to give it a shot, for sure.

And I'm losing my current sweet duty. Our platoon sergeant decided I can't spend the rest of the deployment on my butt reading books, so I'm going to train my replacement and be doing something new by a week from now. Gotta hurry up and read more between now and then. Either way, though, the change will be good, I think.

But hey, it's JUNE. June. Three more days and I'll have been activated five months, with probably no more than four months to go before demobilization, less than three months before we get the heck outta here. Too bad we have the hottest months of them all to look forward to.

And so it goes.
