davidklecha: Listening to someone else read the worst of my teenage writing. (Default)

I meant to say something when he posted it, but December being the month it was, I never got around to it. So let me say it now:

Jonathon McCalmont, a/k/a SF Diplomat hung up his blogger’s hat on December 15. A damn shame. I always liked what Jonathon had to write (even if I did not always agree with it), and I’ll miss him in the blog feeder.

That said, he is still writing, including this article for The Escapist on why he’s not a gamer any more. Good stuff, and definitely gets to the heart of one of the most curious things about the gaming industry these days. For old time’s sake, I will disagree with him slightly: I think the A/V geek brand of gamer is going to go by the wayside as well as the thing he complains about–video hook-ups–becomes more and more standard again in an effort to make sure even the greenest newbie will be able to hook a console up to his TV no problem.

Then again, maybe it will just mean the explosive growth of yet another slice of the service sector–A/V installers. I know they’re booming right now, though mostly for the more complex set-ups.

Anyway, I’ll miss your blog, Jonathon. Keep writing.
