Heat index of 103? 105?

Yeah, just a little too much for [livejournal.com profile] tappu to take, without A/C. We had been hoping to hold off on central air for the rest of this summer... but it's just been too ridiculously hot. So we're biting the bullet, and I have a few folks coming out to give estimates. Coincident with that, our internet has just gotten intolerably slow. We had been using a radio wireless thing for internet, which was supposed to cruise along at about 800kbps... or around 14x the speed of dial-up... but it never really seemed to measure up. So, we'll be going 3.0Mbps DSL, which should be a nice upgrade.

LibraryThing appears to be one of the coolest things ever, and may just finally negate my urge to do some kind of home database for all my books. The bummer is having to pay for it, if you want to catalogue more than 200 books... but it might just be worth it. In my mind, a decent database is just not complete without a plethora of information, which is a pain in the ass to program for, sort by, and enter... And LibraryThing has already taken care of all of that, with the added bonus of being able to share with your friends. Here's mine, where's yours?

Fat Doctor has been quarantined at home following exposure to Mumps or something, and in the post notes the struggles of being stuck at home and away from work. I've been having some of the same issues myself with my one-or-two-days-per-week working from home shtick. Now, in general I don't interact with my co-workers, but I tend to have more than enough social outlet for a social dude like myself interacting with clients who, aside from their aptitude for breaking compters, are really fine, intelligent and interesting people. No, really. All by myself at home? Well, if I ever get to the heavenly point where I can write full-time, I'm feeling more and more like I'll need an outside-the-home office to do so, and some significant social outlet.
