I moved to my new post tonight. It's just as boring as my old post, with only half as much sitting down, and NONE of the Staff NCOs and Officers leaning over my shoulder. It's hotter, but that's a blessing, in my humble opinion. No man should have to wear his Marine Corps issue fleece pullover in someplace like Iraq, in June, nearly that much. And, of course, I'll end up shedding a bit more of that unsightly flab stuff. What's left of it. Now I just need to get used to standing up for the duration of the other half of the shift, again, and I'll be all good. I did a few days at nine hours of straight standing, in the sun, not all that long ago. I can handle three in the shade, really I can.
Oh, and it's quiet on the wire. Really quiet. Silly quiet. It never really got that exciting, even during the first two weeks of April (when I did see an RPG launched... straight up in the air), and now it's less exciting. Freakishly normal, one might even say. I'm enjoying it. So, I think, will
tappu. She's singleminded about my continued breathing, that way.
The PX got more CDs recently, and today I bought "WoW!Hits 2003" (Contemporary Christian hits, because... darn it, I like the songs, and see if I defend that choice to any of y'all), and "Motown's #1 Hits." On the latter, the only song I could probably do without is some Boyz II Men tune. Otherwise, it's all the stuff I grew up on, listening to my parents' Motown radio stations back in the day. Haven't actually listened to it yet, but I'm going to as soon as I'm done working out tonight. Mmmhmm. Motown goodness.
In open defiance of that silly rumor/sensational news story of not too long ago, the PX also started stocking digital camcorders not too long ago. Naturally, higher-end digital cameras followed the cheapy that I bought last month, as well, and now I see that an extra seventy bucks would have gotten me another megapixel, an LCD screen, removable media, and a smaller USB cable. But I'm not upset. The pix are good enough.
And the writing continues to flourish. I'm over 70k total words, now, and basically in the home stretch as far as this novel is concerned. I'm worried that not all of those 70k are the best possible words I could have used, but I'll take a couple weeks editting and revising and whatnot, and we'll see if I can't have something saleable by July 15. I'm betting I can. And then... and then... and then...
And that's all for now. Gonna go call the wife.
