Finished Thief of Time and two-thirds through Night Watch. I'm definitely digging how the two blended together. Quite nice. I don't think I've seen him do that with successive tales before, but, again, I haven't read them all yet.

The image of a little old lady, driving a big rig, wearing a black Kevlar helmet and blue flak jacket, never fails to amuse me.

There may indeed be a picture of me, standing in a tower making a face, that I can e-mail home, or, heaven forbid, perhaps even post here. I'll see what I can do about that. I may, also, be sending home a disposable camera soon, and we'll see if it survives the process. It'll be accompanied, probably, by some unneeded gear... and boy have I discovered how much superfluous junk I do have. Barely even broken into my seabags, have I.

There's a guy here, a US contractor, who does Arabic translating who lives in the greater GR area when he's not here. Very cool guy, will have to look him up when I get home. As it is, I see him twice a week for reinforcement lessons.

A few light days ahead, assuming a lack of working parties (which, of course, is never safe to assume), so I'm looking forward to the rest and reading.

I now have a collar to go on my flak jacket, a throat protector (gorget?) and a big triangle of Kevlar for my groinular region. Need to get pictures of me in all that, as well. I'm sure they'll be hysterical.

Oh, and here's a picture of my platoon, in Kuwait.

More books arrived today from [livejournal.com profile] pewtergryphon. Thanks again, as always :)

That's it for now.
