For Real, Though
Nov. 19th, 2003 12:38 amFinished my short story tonight. I kinda hate it, I think. I definitely needed to get it out of my head, but it's easily everything I suck at with the short form.
Anyway, I'm going to revise it Friday, and then I'm looking for volunteers to read it and tell me what you think, in good and constructive ways. I would ordinarily post it to OWW, but my membership expired last Friday, and I don't really want to resubscribe if I'm going to be going away. Really, I just want to know if it works as a short story, and if it doesn't, why you think not.
Final word count was 5,881, in 26 pages. Not a very long story at all, really. Just felt that way.
I am so not cut out for these things.

Nov. 19th, 2003 11:29 amI wanted to post this Sunday, but I forgot what had inspired me to post something by the time I got close to a computer. But, aha!, I remembered on the bus this morning.
So, let's say that you're a DJ at a dance/ball function for a bunch of Marines who have just found out that they're going away for a year. They'll say good-bye to wives, family, and friends other than the guys in green for a year. They could face much of that year, wracked with uncertainty, wondering whether or not their wife or girlfriend or whatever is cheating on them, or falling out of love, or whatever.
So what do you play?
Break up songs, you cheated on me songs, and falling out of love songs. And make them all slow, so people are tempted to dance to them, despite the depressing lyrics.
Sewiouswy, Pom-Pom.
