740 of them, in the short story project, which is almost done. I think I'd write more short stories if I, ya know, wrote them faster. My friend Paul mentioned in his newsgroup that he has a hard time with novels because he's accustomed to this "fire" of a short story that he just associates with writing. In a novel, the fire doesn't last long enough for him.

Me, I just don't write like that. Which, I guess is good, as I'm not Paul, and what works for him likely doesn't work for me. But, I think, he's a great short story writer. And I'm pretty sure that I'm not. So maybe there's something to that angle.

Here's hoping the next year won't put too much of a bite into my production. (I might end up counting notebook pages instead of words, though.)
